Thanks so much for flagging this and opening the GitHub issue. You are right, this was a real bug with the Overwrite existing thumbnails option that could in rare cases delete original image files instead of just thumbnails.

I am really sorry this happened. I always hoped this kind of data loss would never be possible. It is fixed now in version 0.3.13 and there is also a small helper script on GitHub to help check your gallery for any missing files.

I have tested the fix several times now and for me it looks good, but please test it on your side too and let me know if everything is working fine now. Again, sorry for the trouble and thanks a lot for reporting it so clearly and helping to get it fixed.

That’s why it’s especially important to me now to test thoroughly so these kinds of issues don’t come up in future runs.

I just published the 0.3.14, which contains a number of improvements and bugfixes (https://github.com/HendrikSchoettle/Alb … ag/v0.3.14).

I’ve put in quite a bit more time over the past days and weeks to fix things up, smooth out the rough edges, and close out all the GitHub issues you reported. It feels like the project is in a much better place now.

Now, I would really like to get to the point where I can say, this is solid and it is ready to go. Once we have that, my goal is to officially upload AlbumPilot to the main Piwigo repository. That way, it will be much easier for users to find, install, and test it - and I may have the chance to get a clearer picture of how it’s being used and what might need improving next.

I originally built AlbumPilot mostly for my own needs - but it’s grown well beyond that thanks to your detailed feedback and real-world testing. I’ve already invested a lot more time than I expected (as always with projects like this), and I still have plenty of ideas for the future. But for now, I would really like to focus on getting this first version out the door and in people’s hands, so everyone can benefit from it and I can be sure it’s working reliably.

So for the moment, I’d prefer not to add any bigger new features until we have this solid base version released. Once that’s done, there’s lots of room to extend it. Thanks again for all your help so far - it really means a lot!

It would be fantastic if you could check this version one more time and really test it thoroughly. I am of course happy to take any further error reports, but my main focus now is to make sure everything is stable and working as expected. Once you feel it’s good on your end too, I would get it cleaned up and refactored a bit more and then take the step to publish it officially as a new plugin.

Thanks a lot for running all your tests – that was really great support and has helped a lot, especially to catch some edge cases that I just do not have on my own setup.
