Today we are publishing the first beta version of Piwigo 16. A few exciting changes have been made and more are to come ! Find out below what we have been working hard on :
A) "Standard Pages", a default design for common pages

In Piwigo 16 we are introducing a standard design for common pages. For now the pages concerned are login, sign up, forgotten pasword and profile can use this design. The administrator can choose whether they want to apply the standard pages design or keep a themes template (only the pages mentionned above are concerned). A theme developper can also decide not to create the templates for theses pages and just use standard pages by adding
$themeconf['use_standard_pages'] = true
These pages come with a quick language switch and also a light or dark mode. You can manually change the mode or it can take into account your browser preference, we know some of you have been waiting for the automatic dark mode ;) And let's wait and see maybe the admin will get the automatic light/dark mode aswell ...
B) API Keys
When using 2 factor authentication it wasn't possible to use our API. So our mobile apps weren't able to connect to the API. This meant the 2FA wasn't adopted, and we weren't satisfied with this. So we had a look at what was possible and what we could implement. The solution : API keys. This allows authentication using specific keys linked to a specific user. So other apps can connect to Piwigo's API using the API key. Each key is valid a certain amount of time. Our developpers no longer need to create sessions for API requests. To handle these API keys you will find them in the gallery profile only with Standard pages (for now).
C) The save buttons have moved !
In a continuous effort to keep on bettering the UX of our interface, after moving the save button on the edit album page, we have decided to move them all. A lot of times the save button was hidden at the bottom of the scroll, and our users forgot to "save" their edits. Most of the submit/save buttons now live at the bottom of the screen, always visible.
D) New newsletter subscription banner
If you are reading this then you shall already know the added value of recieveing our newsletter. For those that don't yet know about it however, we have added a banner to the dashboard to sign up to our newsletter. However don't worry you can easily hide this !
E) New image sizes
12 years ago, with Piwigo 2.4.0, we introduced multiple sizes and set the maximum size XXL to 1656 x 1242 pixels, by default. Today our computer screens are getting bigger and are using a higher definition display (Take for example the Retina display by Apple). As a consequence the XXL Piwigo size was not big enough to fill you screen. This is why we have now introduced 3XL and 4XL sizes.

Happy beta-testing :D

Thank you for your work and efforts to make Piwigo better. But it seems to me that the main problem has not been solved for many, many years. There is still no "Robots.txt" file, an unimaginable number of garbage pages get into the index. SEO suffers.

What does "Bot Protection" have to do with indexing by the main search engines Google and Yandex? An incredible number of garbage pages get into the search engine index, other bots have nothing to do with it.

Sorry, guess I misunderstood your problem.
Hi,
It's great to see that we can still see new versions of our wonderful gallery. I have three questions:
1. When can we expect Piwigo version 16?
2. Will the RSS feature be available in any of the versions (for registered users)?
3. I've also noticed an inhuman number of visits to my Piwigo instance: https://download.drive.shadow.tech/s/XWqyEdAYXLCcJiF

Nr3 : look for the Bot Protection plugin, very efficient : https://piwigo.org/ext/index.php?eid=1033
Nr 2 : do you mean enabling a rss service for your own Piwigo, as on my sites ?
