piwigo_VideoJS always overwrites existing poster

If ffmpeg is available on the machine, piwigo_VideoJS always overwrites existing (manually uploaded) poster in folder /pwg_representative.

This happens when syncing metadata on the photo-properties page - videojs tab.

The settings in the plugin-config page - sync-tab to keep existing pictures seem to have no function.

Can anyone confirm?

Re: piwigo_VideoJS always overwrites existing poster

Hi @gueba,

On my test server, when the checkbox "Overwrite existing posters" is unchecked, the plugin does not create posters (empty output). Can you share details about your configuration and the settings of the Sync page?

All the best

Re: piwigo_VideoJS always overwrites existing poster

Hl, Thank's for answering.

My setup is on Debian 13 LAMP installation in my home-net:

Server-Umgebung

Piwigo 16.4.0 Prüfen, ob eine neue Version verfügbar ist.
    Installiert auf 28. Januar 2017, vor 9 Jahre 7 Monate 2 Wochen 2 Tage
    Betriebssystem: Linux
    PHP: 8.4.24 (Info anzeigen) [2026-09-14 08:04:34]
    MySQL: 11.8.6-MariaDB-0+deb13u1 from Debian [2026-09-14 10:04:34]
    Grafikbibliothek: ImageMagick ImageMagick 7.1.1-43
Größe des Cache 179.34 Mo   berechnet vor 4 Wochen Aktualisieren

Liste der aktivierten Plugins 5

    LocalFiles Editor
    OpenStreetMap
    Panoramas
    Show Photo Identifier
    VideoJS

I guess I was not clear enough: there are two ways to perform the sync:

1.) on the plugins settings-page -Sync-tab, where everything works as expected. Unchecking "Overwrite" does not create a poster

2.) on the Edit photo page - VideoJS-tab, where the "Synchronize metadata" does not accept the "Do-not-overwrite"-setting (unchecked) on 1.) (settings-page) and always creates a new poster.

Hope I got this right now.

Re: piwigo_VideoJS always overwrites existing poster

So I dug a bit deeper and found that

on the plugin's settings-page -Sync-tab, sync is only performed if the checkbox "Overwrite existing posters" is checked otherwise no metadata will be synchronized at all.

on the Edit photo page - VideoJS-tab, things are handled in a different way.

Should i file this on github?

Re: piwigo_VideoJS always overwrites existing poster

This bug should be fixed in the version available on GitHub (to be installed manually after a Download ZIP).
