[2.0.0RC4] upgrade procedure

The upgrade script available in Piwigo 2.0.0RC4 can upgrade any PhpWebGallery database from 1.3.0 to 1.7.3.

Let's detail the upgrade procedure (simplified for the beta testing):

1. with your FTP client, fetch :

    * include/mysql.inc.php
    * galleries (full directory)

2. copy the fetched files into the release candidate directory

3. dump all phpwebgallery tables from the MySQL database

4. load tables into a fresh database

5. edit include/mysql.inc.php so that it connects to the fresh database

6. run upgrade.php from a browser and follow instructions

Re: [2.0.0RC4] upgrade procedure

A couple of things in the instructions are confusing me:

3. dump all phpwebgallery tables from the MySQL database

If one makes a new database for RC4, then is it necessary to dump the old one?  It would be easier to recover from problems if the old database was still there, and all one had to do was alter mysql.include.php to point to it again.  Or is there a mistake in that thinking?

4. load tables into a fresh database

Making the new database I can understand.  But what does "load tables" mean?  Which tables?  Does the install script establish them, and then ask me where to put them?  At which point I'd presumably point it at the new database I established.  Or are these the old tables that I put into the new database?  I don't remember having done that before.  Is there a command to use?  Is it shown how to do that in the script?  Or how does it work?

Thanks!

Re: [2.0.0RC4] upgrade procedure

Be careful... 2.0.0RC4 is for test only.
So, if you want to test upgrade, you should fallow procedure...
You should not upgrade to 2.0.0RC4 on your production gallery.

When 2.0.0 final release will be available, you do not need to dump database and load it into a new database!
You will just need to save tables (in case of troubles during upgrade), save mysql.inc.php file and galleries directory, transfer piwigo 2.0.0 by FTP, copy back mysql.inc.php file and galleries directory, and run upgrade. But you should do this only with 2.0.0 final release.

Re: [2.0.0RC4] upgrade procedure

Yes, I knew it was a test version, but, I'm feeling impatient :D

Given how much I hate fussing with mysql databases, maybe I better wait.  Thanks for the warning.
