File Permission After Upload?

The installation guide doesn't say anything about file permissions. After extracting and uploading all files I get a 500 internal server error. My server meets all requirements. So, I guess it has something to do with file permissions or uploading.

Where can I find instructions on this? This really should be in the installation guide.

500 internal server error is usually what is says: a server error that more often has nothing to do with the content of your site.

Your host server might have some problems at the moment.

If you can't see the Piwigo installation screen, then it would be interesting to see what your web server error log contains. Can you have this information?

Now I got an error telling me I have to chmod the _data directory to 777. As I thought one has to change permissions. Probably also for other directories. But for now I got the installation page.

So tosca was right, it was a temporary failure on your web server, not related to Piwigo.

Yes, Piwigo will ask you to set permissions when needed. For example, if you want to install a new theme with the web administration panel, Piwigo will tell you "please add write access on the themes directory".

At installation time, you only need write access on the "_data" directory.
