500 Internal Error Due to Long Hang on Photo Load Piwigo 2.4

Well I'll try,

So I have a shiny new 2.4 Piwigo installation, I have the plugin from Adobe Lightroom by Alloyphoto. I have uploaded a few photos (110?) all re-sized locally to around 1mb. They successfully upload via Lightroom and populate beautifully in Piwigo.

Problem: Whenever I go to view a few photos, the site hangs for a while, 10 seconds sometimes. from here I will either get a 500 Internal error or the image will load (after quite some time) These are 1mb photos remember. When my site was hanging I quickly logged into my webhost account (Xenonservers.com) to see that my webserver was redlined with full CPU usage as well as memory, and Xenon gives quite a bit to use too.

I am stumped, Is this a configuration problem? I did have to enter this string into my php.ini to allow the Lighroom Plugin to work.

always_populate_raw_post_data = Off

Could that be the problem? I have asked the host company to run a query, we will see what they have to say.

Re: 500 Internal Error Due to Long Hang on Photo Load Piwigo 2.4

starting with 2.4, piwigo generates automatically thumbnails, small, medium, large .... versions from the original

This is done only once per photo (unless you change parameters) and is cpu intensive, so this might be the reason of your errors.

Re: 500 Internal Error Due to Long Hang on Photo Load Piwigo 2.4

This still doesn't sound right, I uploaded a photo that was 4kb just to test the system and it maxed the server out? that just seems a bit ridiculous.

How could I change parameters? Because clicking on every photo on the site and waiting 20 seconds for the server to render out sizes would take weeks, even with a script or something.

The help is greatly appretiated

If you upload by the web form, the resized pics are generated. And there is an action in the batch manager to generate

Brendan, I agree that there is a problem on your server: thumbnail generation is damn slow!

What is your graphics library? You can see it on the Piwigo administration home page. In case it is not GD, then:

1) open screen [Administration > Plugins > Manage] and activate plugin LocalFiles Editor
2) open screen [Administration > Plugins > LocalFiles Editor > local config] and paste the following code

Code:

<?php
$conf['graphics_library'] = 'gd';
?>

and save the configuration

This is my graphics Library-- Graphics Library: GD bundled (2.0.34 compatible)

I have started testing with two other instillation of 2.4, One on the same server, one on another server, both run so fast it makes me drool, must be a problem with my initial instillation.

Same server but running faster?

Do you have a local configuration? (if yes, please copy/paste here)
Do you have a local .htaccess? (if yes, please copy/paste here)

Re: 500 Internal Error Due to Long Hang on Photo Load Piwigo 2.4

I do not have a .hta or local config, just an edited php.ini with the one change I made, that's in the server's root.

Well I don't know what it was but it seems to be fixed. I have been in contact with the server company but I doubt they could have fixed it because the 2nd test 2.4 was working when the first 2.4 was slow as can be. Was it the code that you had me add? It picked up 10 minutes after I entered that code.

I am not too sure how the back end works but are pictures resized on the server? Like rvelices said, this is a CPU intensive task so is it possible that the server just now finished resizing? again I don't understand the backend of Piwigo 2.4. All I know is 2.4 did not install correctly for me and after a 12 hour server slow down hampered by a mere 132mb's of pictures, somehow it has come back up to speed. C'est louche

Re: 500 Internal Error Due to Long Hang on Photo Load Piwigo 2.4

Yes, photo resizing is CPU intensive, but we're talking about 2 seconds on a 10MB photo, not 10 seconds on a 1MB photo.

Yeah that sounds much better, well it seems to be working like I said, don't know what it was but I am very happy with Piwigo, I'd love to visit Piwigo's offices (if there are any) the next time I am in Paris, When servers behave, you have the best photo gallery hands down,

Plg, flop25, & rvelices the help is appreciated. Awesome team and support. *clicking donate button ;)

No headquarter offices for Piwigo, this is a "distributed" work :-) Maybe one day!
