I'm having issues with this too.  I seem to be only able to manually sort.  Selecting any of the Automatic options doesn't do anything.  As a side question, what is the "numeric identifier" sorting option?

Re: [resolved] Don`t work Manage photo ranks

Very strange because mine works on both my test installations.
Not that this helps you, but just to confirm it is not a 'general' problem with 2.4

Changing the first sort order criteria works every time for all options - including changing the order if I use date created OR date posted - which are different.

I'm not sure if the subsequent filters have an effect as my test galleries do not have sufficient spread of data to test these.

You could delete all but the first filter, and set that to dates or names and see if that makes a difference, then add other filters and see the effects - that is if you have not already done that ;-)

Re: [resolved] Don`t work Manage photo ranks

hello
the numeric id can be seen on the edition page of any pictures
for setting the order see http://youtu.be/laSD8JCn6gI?t=58s and don't forget to apply to subalbum.

Manual sort is problematic. If i send for prepare 300-400 photos from wedding, manual sort could be lengthy. "Numeric identifier" isn`t possible, because 1st camera number consecutively and 2nd camera number consecutively. i could renumber photos after ordering photos in windows by date of create photos but i wanna save authentic numbers for archive.

i`ve suspecting that "date created" is date created of file (after modification) and not date created of photo (real time of create photo). this are two different dates of course :-(

Re: [resolved] Don`t work Manage photo ranks

i`ve suspecting that "date created" is date created of file (after modification) and not date created of photo (real time of create photo). this are two different dates of course :-(

I have a photo
IMAGE1
created on 27/05/2010 13:50
modified on 09/05/2012 17:41
posted on 02/07/2012

Another photo
IMAGE2
created 15/11/2011 16:02
mofified 23/11/2011 18:50
posted 02/07/2012

When I sort by date created old->new, IMAGE2 comes after IMAGE1, so it is taking into account the older date of creation of IMAGE1 (the modified date is later than the creation date of IMAGE2).

So the date created is what appears to be used for sort, not last date modified.

The info regarding dates created and dates modified are as displayed in a program called PHOTOME.

Re: [resolved] Don`t work Manage photo ranks

I think that I see the answer to my problem.  The Manage Photo Ranks doesn't display the images in the order that they are displayed in the album.  I'm not exactly sure what order it does display them in, as I've seen some cases where it didn't make any sense at all, but the album is correct.

All of my photos have names that look like time stamps (yyyymmdd_hhmmssssss.jpg) which is based upon the date/time that the image was created.  As a result I can sort either by name or DateCreated.  I've had albums where the image order wasn't in any clear order, so I tried sorting by name and DateCreated without apparent luck.  I had wanted the images in Manage Photo Ranks to reflect the soft order.  Then I wanted to  switch to manual mode and re-order some of the images.  That's tedious if you have to a major re-order.

Note that the date_creation field in the database (aka "date created") is when the image was taken, not the edited/modified date.

P.S.  I watched the video, but still have no idea what the Numeric Value is.

Re: [resolved] Don`t work Manage photo ranks

P.S.  I watched the video, but still have no idea what the Numeric Value is.

Look in Photos/Batch Manager/ and select the 'Single Mode ta'.

On the left are thumnails for each image - click the 'Information' link below the thumbnail.

The 'Numeric identifier' is shown at the bottom of the list alongside the thumbnail at the top of the information page.

This number is unique to each photo. I believe iis allocated sequentially as each image is uploaded and cannot be changed (well possibly it can be using PHPMyadmin and changing it in the database directly) whereas the 'Creation Date' (ie date picture taken held in database) can be changed in the form.

Re: [resolved] Don`t work Manage photo ranks

The "numeric value" is actually they "id" key for the images entry in the "_images" table which contains info about all of the images.  This key gets incremented as images are loaded.  I really don't know what its practical use is.

Re: [resolved] Don`t work Manage photo ranks

It's a shame that each album does not have it own sort facility.

I can think of situations where one gallery may require sorting by creation date and another by filename for example.

Maybe someone will consider this for a plugin sometime.

well... in the video, you can see the ordering page for an album, and if you don't check "Apply to sub album"... I will let you guessing what should happen
