i`ve suspecting that "date created" is date created of file (after modification) and not date created of photo (real time of create photo). this are two different dates of course :-(
I have a photo
IMAGE1
created on 27/05/2010 13:50
modified on 09/05/2012 17:41
posted on 02/07/2012
Another photo
IMAGE2
created 15/11/2011 16:02
mofified 23/11/2011 18:50
posted 02/07/2012
When I sort by date created old->new, IMAGE2 comes after IMAGE1, so it is taking into account the older date of creation of IMAGE1 (the modified date is later than the creation date of IMAGE2).
So the date created is what appears to be used for sort, not last date modified.
The info regarding dates created and dates modified are as displayed in a program called PHOTOME.
i look exif metadata of photos. create date is in format YYYY:MM:DD HH:MM:SS, but if i activate create of photo in piwigo, i see nameday YYYY:MM:DD without time only... if piwigo regard create date from database and not from exif metadata, then i know why don`t order my photos

In the database there are only 3 fields for image dates and for the images listed above they show the following
date_available date_creation date_metadata_update
Image 1 2012-06-29 20:10:27 2010-05-27 11:53:57 2012-06-29
Image 2 2012-07-02 05:59:04 2011-11-15 16:02:38 2012-07-02
The 'date_available' is when it was posted on Piwigo.
The 'date_creation' is the date the photo was taken and is what is in my original photo Exif as the date it was taken.
The 'date_metadata_update' for all the photos in my database are all the same as the 'date_available', but without the time.
The 'modified date' held in the photo exif does not appear in the database.
So it appears that the sort on date created is on the field 'date_creation', but is shown in the gallery without the time,
and
the sort on date posted could be on the field 'date_available' showing without the time OR the field 'date_metadata_update' - I don't know which.
If it is on 'date_available' then I don't know the purpose of the 'date_metadata_update' - perhaps a developer could enlighten us.
So if your sort order is not what you expect, you could check what is held in the database to try and see what is happening.

what a great support, pewe! Thx

it's the date of the last metadata synchronization, using tool->Synchronize

Thanks Flop.
Is that date used for anything else except recording when the photo metadata was last sychronised?

It's only used for this, indeed. There is no point using it for sorting photos.

I hope this is 'on topic'...
Is it possible to edit the Time as well as the Creation Date of an Image?
Often with a day's shoot I want to move the photos around slightly after uploading to Piwigo
and the easiest would be to change the Time stamp.
(If I realise before I upload, I do this on my PC beforehand).

you can set the creation date, in the batch manager

I think this is a very significant omission!
Shall I request formally it or what?

Once again, I think that the albums are being sorted correctly when they are displayed. The issue seems to be that in the Manage Photo Ranks that it doesn't display them correctly unless "manual" is selected. This is clearly bad/wrong behavior. I expect the Manage Photo Ranks to display what the album will display.
What I've also found that is really quite interesting is that some of my photos, from the same shoot, have the IPTC Creation Date set, which only provides a date only (no time) and others don't. I have no idea why some images have this and others don't. For those that don't have the IPTC Creation Date, they have an XMP Creation Date which includes both date and time. If the IPTC Creation Date field exists, Piwigo uses that. If it doesn't exist, it utilizes the XMP field (or is it using the EXIF Original Date/Time field?) The question is why are they choosing the fields in this order? To me it would make much more sense to use the EXIF then the XMP and finally the IPTC field.
What I have also realized is that Windows 7 has a bug in which it isn't sorting the files in the correct order. All of my file names are in the form of a time stamp. When I select the files to upload, it applies what turns into a random order, making me do lots more work to sort them. The following fix should solve this issue.

Note that I set NoStrCmpLogical = 1, which solved the issue that the files were being loaded in the incorrect order.

I understood that XMP is a separate 'side-car' file and is not embedded in the Image like EXIF and IPTC.
If the IPTC Date has no Time, I would prefer to use the EXIF Date & Time.

I think that you're confusing the .XMP sidecar files that PhotoShop creates when editing raw files. These contain the recipe used to edit the raw data. I don't know why this info isn't imbedded in the raw file, but it isn't. It is imbedded in JPG files, etc and imbeds things like IPTC data in a much more extensible format.
