Piwigo 2.5 roadmap

Hi Piwigo Team,

edited on December 26th 2012: Piwigo 2.5 postponed to february 2013

Piwigo 2.4 has been a huge step. Some extensions are still not compatible, but we have to plan version 2.5.

Just like version 2.3, version 2.5 mustn't break plugin/theme compatibility. Version 2.5 doesn't have to be a huge version, let's have something smaller than usual.

I would like Version 2.5 in 2012.

* 2012-10-22 : 2.5.0beta1
* 2012-11-05 : 2.5.0beta2 (previous + 2 weeks)
* 2012-11-19 : 2.5.0beta3 (previous + 2 weeks)
* 2013-01-15 : 2.5.0beta4
* 2013-02-01 : 2.5.0RC1 = deadline for changes in language files
* 2013-02-23 : 2.5.0RC2
* 2013-03-04 : 2.5.0

If you want to implement new features that are not on the Roadmap page yet, let's talk about it here (without going into details)

Re: Piwigo 2.5 roadmap

Here are ideas for 2.5:

* size "Automatic"
* navigation icons over the photo, just like Stripped does [Forum, topic 17734] show HD, improvements
* default size [Forum, topic 20400] Evolution : Set a default size/dimention for thumbnails& picture page
* upload: list failed photos
* sprite for flags [Forum, topic 20405] Use CSS Sprites for Language
* single graphical theme for emails (no more "black bacgkround" emails)
* search.php: auto-complete for tags instead of huge checkbox list
* [Edit Album > Permissions], tell if there are private photos
* new design on User Manager (datatables)
* password hash with phpass
* permission inheritance on albums [Forum, post 136153 by plg in topic 20559] Group permissions with registered users
* Elegant White
* antialiased icons for Elegant

Re: Piwigo 2.5 roadmap

I was wondering if it was about Retina/hight dpi screen.
I've got plenty of icons in stock on my computer.

Retina icons would be nice too, but it doesn't sound that urgent to me.

Zaphod has already started to work on better icons for Elegant. It would be good to know what he has done so far.

Re: Piwigo 2.5 roadmap

I started... but I didn't get anything good with the icons...
I was quite happy with the arrows I made for stripped... so I thought it was easy... and it's not.

It would be good to get help from someone with real skills in icon design.

When you go on [Administration > Edit Album > Permissions] you only know if album is public or private and when it's private, who has access. Sometimes, photos are already private with privacy levels. I want to make this information obvious before administrators start to manage permissions at album level and get confused between groups and privacy levels (I see that problem every day, believe me :-/)

For example, we could write :

This album contains 54 photos for everyone, 36 photos for Friends privacy level and 18 photos for Family privacy level.

I agree, designing new icons is hard.

I  will check in my stock and check the license too

About the privacy,  good idea and we should add a warning info if the album is locked

Re: Piwigo 2.5 roadmap

I saw several dicussions where users didn't understand why photos are or are not visible to other users. Maybe add a link on photo admin page to an explanation of who can see this photo ? (examples
- Everybody
- Nobdy
- 5 users (8 users have album accesses, 3 filtered by privacy level)
- 6 users (Everybody has album accesses, 58 filtered by privacy level)
.... )

What about the url protection for private albums in version 2.5? [Forum, topic 18648] [2.4] multiple size / original - protection of urls

Re: Piwigo 2.5 roadmap

"Time is of the essence"

I have suggested two improvements to Piwigo that are 'Time related' and which I would like to see in version 2.5

The first is the ability to Change the Time as well as the Date of any Photo [bug 2679]
This would particularly help sequencing, especially where there are photos from two cameras.

The second is the ability to set the TimeZone for Piwigo History [bug 2766]
It is very confusing that the History Time is that of the Server rather than Local Time and could easily be adjusted by a set number of hours (+/-).

Re: Piwigo 2.5 roadmap

Hi all !

This post makes me remember something I forget to post in the project bugtracker. Here is done : [Bugtracker] ticket 2780.

It would be nice if we could include it in this version.

Re: Piwigo 2.5 roadmap

Excited to see the new stuff for v2.5 coming soon!  Any chance the features from the extension Protected Albums and some other modes of operation can be natively incorporated into the users/permissions architecture?  Some other photo gallery systems have these implemented at the core, and I'd love to see Piwigo include it, too.

Specifically, some features requests I wrote up a while back:
http://piwigo.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=19857

And here is the thread on Protected Albums:
http://piwigo.org/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=128203.

Thanks!
