Unless I have missed something obvious, I do not think you can do this.
I would very much like to see this added to Batch Update, as in my case, I would use it for entering a location an event details for a set of uploaded images.

it's not available, but at least you can do a mass copy-paste in unit mode (if you don't have hundreds of photos)

That is disappointing, let's hope it may be considered for the future.
I do have hundreds to do and my wrist is aching from copy and paste, when I can only get four at a time to show on each page on a 24 inch screen.
Hopefully for my next batch, I will be able to use IPTC to fill the field.
Had I been on my own server, I could have updated the MySQL directly.
Thanks for the update.

Did you try plugin Properties Mass Update?

Thanks for that info, I was not aware of that plugin.
Having had a look at it, I think I will pass on that plugin, it seems too easy, to get it wrong and end up changing fields on images, you did not intend to change. If you could choose an album, instead of generating all the filenames, which may be duplicated, it would be nearly as good as Batch Update, where you can sub-select images in an album.
Title and Description are identical in concept, except for the field name, so i will wait for your adding of Description to the Batch Update - hopefully.

I would like to repeat the request to include not only the title but also the description in batch processing.
Reason: Olympus automatically writes "OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA" in the description of all photos.
Even if you remove this for example in Lightroom in batch, Piwigo still takes the deleted content when uploading the image if the field is EMPTY.
Only if you overwrite the field with ANOTHER content, this also appears in Piwigo.
