Despite several re-installations I cannot get away from the error message:
Table 'hostingm_linkdis.piwigo_sessions' doesn't exist
The error is correct - there is no such table,
but nor is there on other of my installations which function perfectly well without it.
As this installation is not hosted in the same place as the other successes I can only suspect php/mysql versions or configurations.
Any clues would be appreciated!

Hello
at which stage this happens? What did you do and try before, exactly?

Hi,
This is immediately after installation, no images uploaded, simply browsing an empty gallery.
The installation was:
1. Create an empty MySQL database and user.
2. Upload 'piwigo-2.5.2.zip' to the domain root (via ftp).
3. Extract zip file using cpanel file manager.
4. Execute 'install.php' in the gallery folder from (waterfox) browser using database details established in 1.
The installation reports success and the result is usable, but at the foot of the guest opening page I get the following message (domain details obscured):
*******************
Warning: [mysql error 1146] Table 'hostingm_linkdis.piwigo_sessions' doesn't exist
REPLACE INTO piwigo_sessions
(id,data,expiration)
VALUES('4E90aa25884cc700afa422a5f7fc3439d881','pwg_device|s:7:\"desktop\";pwg_mobile_theme|b:0;',now())
; in /home/<domain root folder>/piwigo/include/dblayer/functions_mysql.inc.php on line 795
*******************
The webserver reports:
Apache version 2.2.23
PHP version 5.2.17
MySQL version 5.0.96-community
I can subsequently load images and functionality seems normal with the exception that the error message above never goes away.
p.s. I just noticed tag should be Piwigo v 2.5 NOT 2.2 as I previously reported.

Hmmm
it should be other errors messages: could you check the existence of piwigo tables in your database?
Offline
Yes.
The database contains 30 piwigo tables all with the piwigo prefix as expected.
This includes a table 'piwigo_sessions' but not the full 'hostingm_linkdis.piwigo_sessions' shown in the error message!

our last 2 posts crossed. See my previous with edit.

hostingm_linkdis is just the parent db name from your host
it's 100% reproducible? I'm looking what update fails

okay
In fact that's the regular session opening
you might try to put $conf['session_save_handler'] = ''; as local config

Eureka!
That did the trick.
In the interim I had done two further trial manual installations to exactly the same recipe;
one on a webserver in the UK and one on a webserver in the US.
One produced exactly the same error as before, the other NO ERROR at all. (I won't say which was which!)
I had thus concluded that the problem was one of server configuration, but your solution has proved 'piwigo' can be configured to suit regardless.
My eternal thanks.
NOT A MISSING TABLE AFTER ALL!
