Problems installing on my local computer

I'm trying to install this on my local Win7 machine with IIS, 64-bit.  I've got PHP 5.3.17, MySQL 5.1.  I created a database called piwig.  On the install web page I enter the information and get this error using Chrome:

"The website encountered an error while retrieving http://localhost/piwigo/install.php?language="en_UK. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.  HTTP Error 500."

On FireFox I just get a blank page.

The info I'm entering is:
Language: English [UK]
Host: localhost
User: root
Password: my db password
Database name: piwig
Database tables prefix: piwigo_
Webmaster login: admin
Webmasrter password: the password
Webmaster mail address: my email

Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Re: Problems installing on my local computer

I am having the same problem.  No responses in 10 months?  Surely this has happened to others.
I am using Ubuntu 12.04LTS running apache2, mysql, php5 (all of which are working).  I AM using virtual hosts to serve up the site.

Re: Problems installing on my local computer

Thanks for the response.  I will open a new issue next time, but resolved the issue and will post it here for future reference.

I am actually using ubuntu 10.4, not 12.4
I had not applied any updates in over a year.  once I installed all awaiting updates, including kernel, apache, others, the system started working.  I can only assume there is a minimum library level required that made this work.
