comments on English Language

I'm a bit puzzled by the fact that the English language file is described as UK English, but is full of American spellings - e.g. optimize, favorite etc.  Plus the fact that there is no US English file.

For my own purposes I have created a local UK language file of overrides to the distributed UK language file.  I would be happy to upload it if there's a mechanism for that, and somebody to moderate it.

It's not that the existing file is wrong, just that to a native English speaker, it sounds "foreign".

Foe example, I took some time to realise that "caddie" was being used in the sense of "tea-caddy" - being a container or device for carrying stuff. It is a noun almost completely forgotten in modern English - caddy as a noun and a verb refers almost exclusively to the chap who carries your golf clubs, but not the thing he carries them in.

In my file I have changed "caddie" to "bundle", "tag" to "keyword", "*ize*" to "*ise*", and translated  the French-sounding phrases to English-sounding phrases where I could be clear as to the context:

e.g. "albums added in the database" is "albums added to the database" and so on.

I'm very new to this software, and hoping to be helpful, so I apologise if I speak out of turn.

Hi Cadencia,

That is *very* helpful. Yes we can duplicate en_UK as en_US and add your files as en_UK. Please send them to ddtddt(at)piwigo.org. Then we will create a new language en_US in the translation manager.

Hi Cadencia,

You're right. We are mainly a French team, even if English is set as the default language of the project, it is not always easy to find the correct words or sounding phrases. Personally, my experience of English is mainly U.S.. ;-)

@plg : By the way, is it possible to improve reference English translations (for Piwigo core and plugins) with the online translation tool?

I tried to get in to amend 'customizable' in about.html but I can't seem to do any edits.
Is it me or perhaps IE 10?

Is there a way we can notify of corrections for the English Language, maybe a sticky in the forum.

Please advise
