Hi Piwigo Team,

I would like a shorter release cycle for Piwigo 2.7. Of course with "less changes". Each major version asks a lot of work, maybe it would be simpler with a 4-month cycle. Reminder: Piwigo 2.6 came 10 months after 2.5 and was full of new features and technical changes. The goal is to release 2.7 in May (and 2.8 before the end of 2014).

Work has already been done on 2.7:

* rvelices: new engine for quick search, user ratings administration, jQuery 1.11
* mistic: link "activate it now" after plugin install, $conf['sync_exclude_folders'], new emogrifier
* flop25: jBreadCrumb
+ changed PHP required version to 5.2 (mistic/rvelices)

My top priorities are:
1) HTML5 upload
2) refresh search.php design

Hi
I really would like to get the plugin Take A Tour as a core plugin to help new users, and beguinners to discover their Piwigo. I hope that could be done for 2.7 and beta test before.
When I tested different gallery CMS that kind of feature to introduce the product was really missing.
Do you think it's important or we could state for 2.8?

Hi flop25,

I have answered in [Forum, post 150812 by plg in topic 23578] Alpha Test new plugin Take A Tour. I think it's already good enough for being integrated as embedded plugin, activated by default! Well done.

Talking about embedded plugins, we should replace MultiView by AdminTools. I'm not sure we should keep Language Switch. c13y_upgrade should be removed (not maintained, does nearly nothing and out dated : checks plugins $included_plugins = array('dew', 'UpToDate', 'PluginsManager', 'LinkRoot');...)

I agree we should remove multi view, c13 upgrade ( never understood what is doing) and language switch....

I'm pleased to see planning for 2.7
When I joined Piwigo in 2012 I identified several improvements for the Batch Manager which I would like to see included in 2.7

At the end of 2012 when we were on 2.4, plg raised two 'bug reports' and I added a third. These are:

[Bugtracker] ticket 2791
and
[Bugtracker] ticket 2810.

A year later I also raised 3 other issues which I think would be easy to do but would be useful:

[Bugtracker] ticket 2766
and
[Bugtracker] ticket 2809.

Please could these be considered for 2.7?

Please don't treat this as a "poisson d’avril" ;)

OK Tadjio, I will try to work on it. These are "small requests" (compared to my main priorities HTML5 upload and search page redesign).

Hi,

Could I make a suggestion, Is it possible to test some core plugins/themes to be released at the same time as the update.

I'm thinking along the lines of the most popular themes/ plugins i.e.

additional pages
stripped
smart pocket
etc

This was we can probably avoid repeated forum posts asking if a particular theme is compatible.

That's to the authors to do it more carefully, and we already do ourself those tests.
Those issues will always stay and no CMS doesn't have the same problem -which is not one in fact, it usually a pebkac issue
But unfortunalty we've also done some mistakes but we are humans :) .. and voluntaries

This is not possible. Plugins are extensions. We can make our best effort to have as many plugins quickly compatible but not waiting for these plugins to be compatible before releasing a new major version.

PS: SmartPocket is embedded with Piwigo by default, so it is always compatible as soon as the new version is released.

Take A Tour has been implemented in trunk:
* @team feel free to change anything, especially please review the steps and texts (especially plg)
* I'm thinking of adding a quick 2.7 tour to present new features for the next version, and continuing with all major updates

Piwigo 2.7.0 is very near. TODO list:

* activate Take a Tour by default (install+upgrade) => plg
* show link to Tour 2.7.0 after upgrade.php => plg
* modify link to Tour First Contact on no_photo_yet (first screen after install) => plg
* upgrade_2.6.0.php (easy to do, requires more time to test...) => plg
* give permitted upload file types on API pwg.session.getStatus => plg
* latest commits from piwigo.org/translate => ddtddt

The release notes is ready.
