I don't remember any specific feedback on old IE about this very issue.

I thought as much, that's why I thought it must be a problem with our gallery. Why would it display some pictures and not others? Hence why I wanted someone to take a look.
The problem still occurs in IE 8 as well (just tested), I will perform the update.

To go ahead, could you install Firefox and the extension firebug and check for error message in the console and/or in the network tab?
i've been using ie8 and xp just before new year and nothing wrong
