Hi Piwigo support and forum members,
It might be that there is a bug in the sort order function.
How to replicate:
1. Place directories (starting with numbers i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and photos in ./galleries/
2. Synchronize in Piwigo, this creates albums out of the directories
3. Now try to sort in Piwigo... The sort function doesn't apply to the albums!
Directory structure I used:
+Bacu
|-2001
|-2002
|-2003
|-2004
Albums show up in Piwigo as e.g. 2003, 2002, 2004, 2001.
Hitting the "Sort Photo Title", doesn't result in order: 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004.
Is there anything else to consider?
Thank you for your time!

Hi
what do you mean by "try to sort in Piwigo" ?
the parameters in Configuration->Options and the switch box on public part apply to photos ONLY
albums are sorted manually (or automatically by alphabetic order) in Albums->Manage, nothing more
that's limited, we know it

and please give the url of your Piwigo gallery, we don't really care about your website :)

Hi Mistic100,
Thank you for the swift reply.
"Administration: Albums->Manage" did the trick!
I think you just answered my question. (ad-hoc) Sorting applies to photos only.
With ad-hoc I mean clicking the icon with "letters A and Z with the arrow next to it".
So when you have sub-albums and photos in an album... Only the photos are sorted the way you have chosen. The sub-albums aren't sorted along with it.
What would be really neat:
You could compare it with sorting in Windows: sort on name, then the directories are sorted alphabetically on top and then the files are sorted alphabetically beneath the directories in one big list.
Thanks for your answer!
I also had a question about removing the "Contact webmaster" e-mail address on the botom right of every page. Of course I support Piwigo: "Powered by Piwigo" should stay.
Any neat piece of code for local/config/config.inc.php to disable "Contact webmaster" link?
Thanks again!
Best regards,
Ben
how would you sort the albums?

This is something I requested in December 2012 in
Bug 0002809 [albums] Sort by Date
Offline
how would you sort the albums?
Well, primarily:
Sorting by NAME.
Secondly, as Tadjio states:
Bug 0002809 [albums] Sort by Date
Thanks for considering!

And with "ad-hoc sort", I mean: see the attached image in this post.

My suggestion for "Sort Albums by Date" is based on my experience with Fotopic (and Pikfu).
There are many ex-fotopic users who may not have raised their voices!
As you can see in the bug report, I did suggest a mechanism as to "how to sort by date"...

Hi Guys,
I have "just" migrated over from gallery3 to Piwigo, and so far I'm really happy. As I'm 100% sync files from the harddrive locally, and not uploading files over the API/APP/Webpage, each new album is put at the back of the order. If I then apply the sort album Z-to-A, and apply this to the sub-folders it cleans up everything.
But can we have a setting to set the Album sort order by default each time a sync has been done?
I've seen that a bug has been files back in 2012, so I guess a lot has happened!
The link to the galleries in case you like to check some stuff, but it should be in order as I clean it up manually:
https://www.we-go.ch/gallery
and
https://gischig.com/gallery
running Piwigo: 2.10.1 (just upraded)
and again, great gallery

Hi,
I would also like to second the earlier request of being able to sort Albums by date. In my particular case, I would like it sorted in the reverse order.
The way I organize the gallery is
2019
December Album 3
December Album 2
December Album 1
January Album 2
January Album 1
2018
September Album 1
August Album 2
August Album 1
March Album 2
March Album 1
Those are not the actual album names, but you get the idea that I would Albums sorted reverse chronologically so that people see the latest at the top.
I am trying to simulate this by uploading the albums in the reverse chronological order - i.e. upload December Album 3 and then December Album 2 etc. However, the default sorting seems to be to show the newest albums first and thus, I get January Album 1 and then January Album 2 etc.
I can reverse this upload order, but it would be nice if we had more options.
Regarding the date for the album - I would use the uploaded date as a proxy and not rely on the date of the underlying photos.
Thanks,
Sridhar
How could I do this?
