There already are the Social Buttons and Facebook Integration plugins which do almost all the job

As this particular wordpress plugin is not Open Source it can't be adapted to Piwigo anyway, but one (you ?) can create a clone from scratch

Not even close to what Social Gallery does.

You can perfectly create a paid plugin for Piwigo BUT you won't be able to publish it on this website, nor in the "Add new plugin" page on Piwigo installations

So users will have to know your plugin exist and manually install it, no need to say, a very limited range of users
I also don't know about making it available on Piwigo.com (certainly not possible as all galleries share the same source code)

In WP, paid plugins are different category, but so we do not wait for similar back end here, you can always offer an "upgrade", i.e. plugins section would offer "light" version, but user then can request/download full version and do inline update. There would need to be some code magic to prevent code override if user by mistake download new "light" version over existing "paid" one, but I think it can be dealt with

in fact, that's on the side of the freelance devs to act: the envato has an api to handle everything (payement, download etc) http://marketplace.envato.com/api/documentation
and the Envato WordPress Toolkit had to be downloaded by the client to get his extensions updated

I absolutely agree. We all are interested in a strong and growing piwigo eco-system. To make a little bit money helps a lot on this way ;-)

Non profit doesn't mean you can't charge for a service. It just means you can't earn profits. You CAN earn enough to pay for hosting etc.

Anyway, let's say Piwigo doesn't want the money. How about letting developers list their commercial plugins in Piwigo repo for free? No reason why they should be left to the mercy of Envato.
