Upload and disposition

Hi Folks,

After I upload a pile of pictures, I want to move them to albums. Is this a physical move, meaning they will be moves to somewhere in "galleries", or are they simply tags and assembled into virtual albums.

I have FTP'd about 1300 images to "upload". I did a sync and I see nothing. Any advice?

Thanks for the help,

Re: Upload and disposition

if you use FTP sync a.k.a Tools->Synchronize (upload all images to FTP organized as folders and then do sync from admin area), all you images would remain in their original location, and site structure would reflect the folder structure
you can then adjust metadata not supplied from image itself if necessary

please note that by default Sync operation does not import anything. you have to uncheck "only perform a simulation"

keep in mind that if later you would or expecting to use web upload option, all new files would be placed in one aggregated anonymous folder with all files mixed. Original files (from FTP) would remain where there were originally.

Re: Upload and disposition

Hi Serge,

I used FTP and now I have 1300 images in "upload", but they are not visible in any way either administratively or through albums. I did clear the "simulate" checkbox, when I did "sync".

Thanks for the structure answer about uploaded files remaining where they are dropped. Is there a way to physically move them from "upload" into a physical album from the administrative interface?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Upload and disposition

did you choose to sync folders and files - default is folders only
I assume you are importing files which are recognized by PWG - see $conf['picture_ext'] and $conf['file_ext'], and you have right folder/file permissions

by design FTP sync is considered "old" way, we were told
as result, there is no physical manipulation of file location once you successfully imported it
PWG is not "designed" to allow members to maintain physical location of files

You can use your FTP client to do that, or do it from the command line.  The intention with FTP + Sync is that you use FTP to put the photos into the "galleries" directory in whatever structure you want, and then the Sync process identifies them there.  If you put them somewhere else, Sync won't pick them up, and the Admin interface won't know about them to do anything with them.
