All:
I want to make sure that metadata, especially updated information like titles, descriptions, etc. is
correct in downloaded files. I seem to be having a problem with that. I *think* this is what is happening:
- I view, edit, ... pictures thereby fording various size images to be created (e.g., medium, large, extra-large)
- I edit titles, description, etc.
- "Write Metadata" via Batch Manager
- download pictures/album via "Download" link on album page (for example)
In many /most cases, the new metadata is not in the downloaded pictures. I strongly suspect that
the generated sizes are not subsequently updated when a "Write Metadata" happens -- the Write Metadata
only updates the "original" version of the picture. Is that true?
My clumsy workaround to this is to:
- update titles, etc.
- "Write Metadata"
- "Delete Multiple Size Images" via Batch Manager
- "Generate Multiple Size Images" via Batch Manager
- download
This *seems* to work but is a not a good solution for me as (1) I often forget to do the above steps
after fixing a title typo, (2) it takes a *long* time to regenerate the many different sizes
after a serious session of titling, etc.
Do I understand how the system is working and is there a better solution to this problem?

Hi Mark,
Thank you for this detailed description of your issue :-)

That's true. [extension by plg] Write Metadata updates the IPTC metadata in the original file and doesn't do anything else.
I can add a deletion of multiple sizes each time metadata are updated (very easy to implement), but why I don't understand is that you don't download the original. Do you use [extension by plg] Download by Size

Thanks for your timely reply (and for your overall support, both via
good code and these forums, of this wonderfully rich gallery).
In this case, I was taking a zip of the downloaded of some pictures from a recent
vacation and sending it on to fellow travelers. I did not need to send the full resolution
images, so selected a slightly smaller set (with instructions on how to get
to the really good stuff on my piwigo site of course!).
A change to delete Multiple Size Images on Write Metadata would be
a good way to go. Then I'll regenerate the other sizes when I do my occasional
gallery-wide regeneration (which someday I will put into a cron job...).
I do not use "Download by Size". My download tab appears to be provided
by "Batch Downloader". Perhaps I should switch to the other one (especially
given it's impeccable authorship!)?
