Change directory name without loosing connection to album

Hi,

I have physical folders with photos and Piwigo on them, thus albums linked to these folders. I would like to change names of these folders but without the need to re-create the albums (since I have various Piwigo metadata linked to photos in the folders). Is it (safely) possible?

Seems like someone had to deal with this before me but I can't find anything. Please direct me the right way if there is any. Thank you very much.

Piwigo version: Piwigo 2.7.4
        Operating system: Linux
        PHP: 5.5.25 (Show info) [2016-03-20 10:48:56]
        MySQL: 5.5.41-MariaDB-log [2016-03-20 10:48:56]
Graphics Library: GD bundled (2.1.0 compatible)

Thanks for reply.

I'll look into it. Do you know if URLs to the old albums will somehow work? It's not particularly important but I'd somewhat like to keep the links alive.

Hi :-)
If you've use standard piwigo link you can pass to virtual album and rename album

Links remain the same

Re: Change directory name without loosing connection to album

OK, got some time to do backups to be able to try this whole virtualization thing, but I don't want to screw things up and I don't understand two things:

a/ Why does the plugin move all your photos from "galleries" to "upload"? And what happens when I don't have any photos in "galleries" (I use different folder outside of the gallery)?

b/ Can you describe me how the plugin actually works? (Couldnt find any detailed description.) Will it somehow hide the original physical albums or how does it avoid duplicities? (Sorry for so many questions...)

Thank you for the help.

Hi edison23,

Photos are moved in "upload" to avoid being taken into account by the sync process in the future.

It should not be a problem if your photos are not in "galleries". Plugin Virtualize is looking for all photos outside the "upload" directory.

It works exactly as described by this code [Github] Piwigo-virtualize file admin.php@L42 ie:

1) list all photos outside "upload"
2) for each photo, move it into the "upload/year/month/day" folder
3) update the images.path in the database
