Hello,
I understand the notification to users etc. however is it possible to have the notification sent out automatically. So if a new picture is added to an album that a user is able to see can they receive the notification automatically rather than me going into Users>notification?

Hello,
try [extension by Eric] NBM_Subscriber
I never used it, I don't know if it's just a subscription interface or an automatic system

OK I resurrect this thread because after 7 years I would like to know if there is anything that can automatically email users that new pictures have been uploaded.

I also do not see such feature neither build in or in a form of extension. If I symlink folder-structured galleries to piwigo/galleries, is there a way to automatically send notifications to my family about new files that appeared?

For future reference and for others struggling as I was - I found the sweet spot. It is called rss2email (https://github.com/wking/rss2email) and it is available in Debian/Ubuntu from apt.
So the gist is this:
1. I subscrbe to RSS feed of my top gallery.
2. I put new files in my directory.
3. The cronjob runs perl script 'remote_sync.pl' (http://www.piwigo.org/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=120767) to trigger quicksync -> new files are added to the gallery -> new RSS feed is generated
4. Another cronjob runs rss2email to send RSS message linking to new photos.
Hope that helps!
