4k Media

Hello

I was wondering if there is any way to force piwigo to open QuickTime Player with video footage that uses AAC, Timed Metadata, HEVC codecs. This is media created on the newer iPhones. The Piwigo iOS app behaves perfectly, but the problem is with MacOS Safari. None of the browsers I have tested is capable of opening such files just yet. Instead of displaying plugin unsupported, I would rather have piwigo open the QuickTime player and play the videos there.

Thanks!

Piwigo version: 2.1.6
PHP version: 7.0.33
MySQL version: 14.14

Re: 4k Media

The file would need to be downloaded and then played. The application used to open it is decided by your browser.

Re: 4k Media

Safari on MacOS (Mojave, Catalina) supports HEVC encoding in MP4 files. I actually have a test file on my Piwigo installation.

No other browsers support HEVC, though, and no browser at all supports HEIC images. It is a matter of licensing, I believe.

Once settled, I will go full HEIC/HEVC.
