Video upload for dummies

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry if this subject has already been covered but I have read several help pages and simply cannot understand them.
I am on a free trial at the moment and looking to get an individual account thereafter.

I am not a techie and am struggling to find my way with certain things. I would like to know how to upload videos taken on my iphone to my piwigo account. I have read about piwigojs but it doesn't appear in my list of plugins. I have downloaded it onto my computer, i now have a piwigojs file in my downloads folder and I have no idea what to do with it.
All the troubleshooting I have found online talks about codes, I have no idea what these are or even where to paste them to??
Could anyone help me please? Talk to me like to a dummy please – tell me exactly what to click on on my screen :-)

I don't understand most of the jargon used, for example I don't know what "exif", "pLoader" or "environment details" mean. Sorry! Or how to know which version of piwigo I have?

(Copy here your environment details, found on your Piwigo page [Administration > Tools > Maintenance])

That's because the name is VideoJS.
However, it's a technical plugin and has prerequisites that if not met in your hosting environment already may be too hard for you to fulfill. Be sure to read and understand the installation instructions, either Yes I'm root or No I'm NOT root.

But you could also try to just upload your .mp4 file without, it wouldn't get metadata and no thumbnail representative extracted, but browsers should be able to play it nonetheless if it's visible in an album at all.

Here is another page explaining how to configure your Piwigo server for uploading videos with VideoJS: https://github.com/Piwigo/Piwigo-Mobile … oad-videos

Re: Video upload for dummies

Hi everyone,

Thanks, yes, I did look for VideoJS and it's not there, and no they're not visible in albums, they don't upload.

Thanks a lot cryopad, I feel like I'm getting somewhere – although still not all the way! I followed your link and found the LocalFiles Editor. I copied and pasted all the codes into it and clicked "saved". It said the file was succesfully created and now it exists there in the LocalFile Editor, it says CSS at the top of the page.
In my plugins list a new plugin appears named LocalFiles Editor.

So that all looks good, however, when I try to upload a video it still doesn't work. It says files format is not recognised.

I downloaded VideoJS as I said but I don't think it's linked to my Piwigo though, it's just a file in my downloads folder on my mac. How do I add it to Piwigo?

I'm sure it should work, I just need someone to explain to me how to do it.

Thanks a lot to anyone who can help me!

Re: Video upload for dummies

Have you installed and activated the VideoJS plugin from the Piwigo admin interface?

Re: Video upload for dummies

If you have admin access:
=> Login then click on Administration
=> Click on Plugins, Manage, Other plugins available
=> Type "video" in the filter
=> Click on "install", then click on "Activate it now"

VideoJS appears in the Plugins list in the bar menu.

Re: Video upload for dummies

Thanks so much for your time cryopad!

When i click on "manage" I haven't got an option for other plugins available. I get a list of "Active plugins" and "Inactive plugins". VideoJS doesn't appear in either. I don't know where to find the filter either? Sorry it's taking so much time!

Re: Video upload for dummies

So your host does not allow you to install VideoJS and therefore upload movies :=(
Where are your photos hosted?

Re: Video upload for dummies

I'm not sure what a host is – I thought that was Piwigo? I'm on a Macbook.

Re: Video upload for dummies

Have you subscribed a piwigo.com account?
If yes, your host is Piwigo and you have an account for individual which does not allow to upload videos (Email support, unlimited storage, no ads but image files only).

Re: Video upload for dummies

Oh I see! Well I'm on a free trial at the moment, but yes, it was going to be an individual account. It says "Image files only" and I thought that that included videos.
So It's only on an enterprise account that videos can be uploaded?

Re: Video upload for dummies

Exact. Personally, I regret very much that Piwigo.com does not propose a second individual plan including all file formats.

If you really need to upload videos, you can setup your own server or choose another web host service also proposing the Piwigo app.
