Heads-up: Bootstrap Darkroom "Bootswatch" Google Fonts (GDPR issue)

Hi,

Just a heads up for those extra careful with GDPR, I saw that Google Fonts is loaded from Google servers in the theme Bootstrap Darkroom when using the Bootswatch-skins.

Best to use Materal Design-skins or self-host the Google Fonts if using Bootswatch-skins.

I really like this theme by the way, it is awesome! :D

Best regards,

You may download the Google fonts, add them to your theme and change the call to them in your CSS file.
You are entitled to do it. The so called Google fonts are mostly not made by google, but hosted by Google and they are all open-source fonts. Different licenses according to the font, but all open source and free to use.

Re: Heads-up: Bootstrap Darkroom "Bootswatch" Google Fonts (GDPR issue)

Hi,

Yes precisely, you can self-host them. Most of the fonts there are SIL Open Font License, or Apache 2.

Though, SIL Open Font License requires you to change the "name" if the font is not provided in WOFF from the beginning, since the conversion to WOFF will alter the font and maybe change metadata and such.

:)

That's what I read on the SIL Open Font License website.

Have a nice weekend.
