Image rotation problems

Piwigoers...

I'm on a Mac. When I upload images via the piwigo web tool, most of the portrait images are coming through as landscape. If I open these in Acorn and re-save, then upload, they are the proper orientation. These images look fine in Preview, Acorn, Firefox, and all other tools I have to view images. It seems that saving them in Acorn, sets something, possibly exif metadata(?), which makes it display properly in piwigo.

Questions:
- If exiftool isn't installed, does piwigo still read the exif metadata from images or does it use some other method to determine which end is up?
- Is there some known issue with image orientation? (I've seen a number of posts over the years, but if this was a serious problem, you'd think there would be more discussion.)

Suggestions appreciated!

Cheers,
...scott

Re: Image rotation problems

It turns out that PHP EXIF must be installed to properly handle image rotation. That's for images are are rotated via metadata and not natively rotated.

If you're having trouble with images not being rotated correctly, make sure that PHP EXIF is installed. This has nothing to do with the 'exiftool' command .. that's a red herring .. don't go there.

Thanks to the help in this forum, I got this straightened out!

Cheers!
