how to create "read-only" user?

Greetings,

I just set up piwigo, with the details below, for a small NGO. All is OK so far, except one thing I can't find how to do in the documentation. The gallery is private, nobody can see photos without entering with user name and password. I know how to create ORDINARY users who can view all albums, but also add photos to each album and comment them.

But I also need to create and configure a guest user (with a different, localized name), who, after entering his password, can SEE all albums and photos, but do NOTHING else. That is, that user cannot add or edit photos, album, comments... only watch. Ideally, even downloading the original photos should be unavailable, but that is not mandatory. What matters is to have a user who can see all the albums, but not alter them in any way.

How do I do that? THanks!

Administration/Users/Manage don't work for you?

Not as I want. I do not see there any option that means "let this user (or group) see these albums and the photos they contain, but do NOT let them add photos or albums, or add comment the photos that already exist"

That's all the problem I have.

User Status Generic doesn't work for you? Only whether comments are allowed or not is not a user property but an album property.

No, because an account with User Status Generic CAN comment on albums, which is what I do NOT want.

I already said that all this gallery will be private (= only registered accounts with passwords can see albums and photos), BUT, I need to have two categories of users (besides admins, of course):

"Normal" user: can see all albums, add photos, and comment existing photos

"Guest" user (who will still have a password!) : can see all albums, but NOT add comments.

Is this really impossible to do with Piwigo, for all albums?

Apparently. As said, comments allowed is an album property, not user property, if not deactivated globally.

I do not see it possible. Once somebody is a member, he can comment on photo or albums. Only non-members can be forbiden to comment.
Only way  (not tested) I would think of is to hide the site behind an htaccess+htpassword. And people who know the way in, won't be member but will be able to view the site without interaction.

Hi,
As Katryne said, the best way is to hide the site.
Moreover, you have to configure Options, tab Comments, unchecking "Comments for all'.
Doing this, comments by guest will not be allowed.
