Re: Concurrent Web Galleries

PhpBB : Biggest community, more mods, addons, skins ...
Invision : Faster (less db queries) more fonctions.

PhpBB : under GPL, I really prefer their licensing policy

By the way, having less db queries doesn't mean that it will be faster. I do prefer having 20 queries for a total of 0.01 second than 10 queries for a total of 0.1 seconds. All is the just about optimization.

But let's talk about it in 1 year :)

yes... phpBB 2.2 will be out and will have replaced my IPB for PhpWebGallery forum

I don't want to fight, we are not in the good section for these  :-?

you're right  :D

4Gallery

Yes, and speaking from experience, and moving my entire portal over to PhpWebgallery from 4images, 4 images is horrible.  It slowed my system to a crawl, with only handling 5000 images and getting around 1000+ page views a day.  One thing it did have that originally sold me on it, was the wonderful users listing in the Control Panel, and listing who was logged in and who wasn't (and how many guests), this would be a great idea for PhpWebGallery!  Ive put your gallery online and my system is smokin fast, with having 2200+ page views so far - so I know your SQL queries are coded right.  Seems 4images has a great thing going but im sure theres bugs in their SQL - and I know its been installed correctly, before anyone states that I didn't install right.  Install of PhpWebGallery was quick and amazingly simple, and I'm still learning how to present my galleries, but overall, its a great product that I can build on, and for a free site, the price was right :)

Re: Concurrent Web Galleries

Don't forget other solutions like MAMBO...
I know what will be said : 'it's just a blog engine'
But It's more than this : it's as simple and efficient CMS fully customizable.
And look at the components you can add : RSGallery, Simple board...
Here is a good example of what can be done including these two compmonents : http://www.rsdev.nl/

The world evolves, the WEB too. So pay attention to convergences...

Re: Concurrent Web Galleries

i am looking for a web gallery where:

- users can upload their own photo's in an album
- users can add titles to their own photo's
- 1  picture from all users are is constantly being randomized when reloaded on the mainpge
- you can browse by user
- you can browse through all images, instead of browsing per user
- the layout of the pages isn't heavy designed, so i can modify the interface easily
- i can specify the size of the thumbnails and the actual photo's

anybody knows such a script ? :D

I would say PhpWebGallery with a good organisation of physical categories. I mean pictures can only be found in sub-level 3 or 4. Thus you can synchronize only a single physical category at once. You split the synchronize process.

No solution for the thumbnails generation process. I only advise you to generate thumbnails outside of PhpWebGallery.

PS: the biggest gallery I know running with PhpWebGallery is "only" 60,000 pictures and 1,000 categories, but it runs very well.

Re: Concurrent Web Galleries

I think I have tried them all on your list, plus more.  I've even been willing to pay!  But None of them have had everything I need for a semi-public/private family gallery.  PWG is doing nicely, it's been a bit of a headache trying to figure some things out, and it does have its quirks, but I'm excited about what the future holds for it.  I just hope they keep on working on it.
