[resolved] Representing folder structure read-only

Dear Piwigo users,

I would like to use piwigo for getting an overview over and downloading from a large picture (jpg and raw) archive on a web server. Say the pictures are in

/pictures

Then I would like piwigo to somehow scan and represent these pictures without writing to /pictures (it can store thumbnails somewhere else). It should not copy over the photos, and it should be able to update the database (I can do this manually sometimes when I need to access the new pictures).

Is there a function or a module that would be suitable for such a task?

Thank you very much.

Piwigo works exactly like that
put pictures in the "galleries" folder (configurable in the site manager), synchronize, and that's all

hi.
....and the /galleries folder can actually be a symbolic link to any other place on that server where the web server may have read-only access.

That's how mine works.

You can actually store the photos in any directory on the server (within the same domain) and use the Site Manager (in Tools) to configure it.
I have done this to use the same photos in 2 versions of Piwigo on my server - it saves having to upload and store the photos twice.
