I have many directories with pictures in them.

Spread across a number of different disks, including external drives.

I use IIS.

People (family) look at my computer via IIS.

So unlike a hosted website, domain, they are not looking at one simple directory tree growing from root.

They are looking at the whole of a real computer - with many drives.  Many trees.

If I install piwigo in my inetpub/wwwroot/  does piwigo then insist I 'upload'  (i.e. move, seeing I'm uploading nothing because it's my computer) my pictures into the piwigo directory tree?

I want to move nothing.

I have thousands of pictures.  Pointless to start moving them.

Equally not good if piwigo makes copies of them in its directory.  There'd be too many.  too much disk space.
