Image (re-)ordering within catagories

Firstly, I think this project is immaculat; congratulations to the authors. :)

I would like to add a feature to enable image reordering within catagories.
Searching this forum I only found a script to rename the image file which I think is a little cumbersome.

Presumably I'd have to add a field to the images table eg image_position and then sort my results by that field.
I'd also need to add a re-ordering script.

Is there anything that I need to be aware of?

Also, It would be good if we could set the representation image from within the catagory management page.

Thanks for your help,

- Donkikong

Hello Donkikong,

And Thanks for all.

"Is there anything that I need to be aware of?" This question is for z0rglub, he will reply in time.

"Also, It would be good ...I looked to find a simple customization to add it in our Wiki pages.
To display a representative picture in the category list, that means that the representative already exists...
If not, script has to set a new random representant. This role is already assign to two existing scripts;
category.php and cat_modify.php
cat_list doesn't have to do it...
It means we have to externalize in a common function, it's a major change.
So I wouldn't be available soon.

Category Management page will be totally revamped in next release.
We didn't thought to add "representation image", but we plan to add :
- Status (private/public),
- Lock info,
- Comments autho.,
- User Upload available,
- Type (Virtual, Real, Distant),
- # of sub-categories,
- # of objects (pictures, or any supported files),
- (I would like to have total pictures hits as well),
ad so on.

In fact, a short resume of all relevant information to manage as best as possible all categories.
I am not convinced that representative picture is really relevant, it can help that's right.

Think about special tags in category names (ending ! for public, for instance).
Edit category: change the name for instance "Travel" to "Travel !" or "> Travel <" or "[Travel]"...

About your ordering script, please explain how do you manage caddie operations in virtual categories, how do you want to initialize the "position" column in that case? With a default option Add before/Add after existing pictures?

The topic "sorting pictures in a category" is well known. See request 169 (french), request 125 (english) for more advanced discussions.
