Server Specifications

Hello,

Currently I am looking to move my web site to a bigger server. Because I have hit the file limit on a unlimited webs pace account I have. So my plan is to move to Dynamic Cloud Server and part of the appeal is that I can add a few other sites I look after into the mix but still keep it cheap(ish).

I have the option to spec the server, at the moment I have 1cpu and 2gb RAM and 100gig storage. Does this seem fine for running Piwigo or do you think I should upgrade the CPU and/or RAM.

Currently I have 126,213 photos online with 7 years more of photographs to upload...so possibly looking at about the 200k mark by the time I finish.

btw I do know there is .com but I want more control over my site, been stitched up too many times over the years.

Thanks
Jack

Re: Server Specifications

most Piwigo installations run on mutualized servers (and some on free servers)

your specs are far enough for Piwigo :)

just know Piwigo generate multiple file for each picture (Thumbnail, Small, Medium, Big...) keep this in mind for calculating the disk space you need

Re: Server Specifications

Thanks mistic100,

Currently with the 126,213 images online I have taken up 22.82 GB of space and 216,859 files. The problem I have hit is the currently unlimited hosting package I have gets upset by the amount of files I use so its a bit like them unlimited broadband connections...unlimited as long as you use them within the limits we don't specify.

I can spec a VM with up to 8 cpu cores and silly ram etc but each step costs an extra £9 a month and I don't want to be paying for power I won't use or space I don't need. I must say I am tempted to up the storage to 200GB so I have a future proof server space wise[1].

[1] I also look after 6 other sites they are database driven but not massive hit rates.
