To the mercy... Well a good dev should have it's own server and sell them from here. Platforms are wining just because of they have collected a critical mass of extension and so users go directly on platforms to find their solutions.
WordPress has the same policy as us and that didn't prevent the paid extensions on WordPress

Decision is up to you guys. But Prestshop is French as well.
And WordPress gained a massive following before they were able to flex so much muscle.
