Crypto Captcha being bypassed by spammers?

Hi all

Has anyone using Crypto Captcha found recently that they are still getting comment spam?

I've always liked Crypto Captcha with the simple "maths challenge" option, and it has worked well for me. But since Piwigo 2.10.1 (I think) I have got a lot of comment spam.

Crypto Captcha seems to be installed OK, since if I try to add a comment myself but don't solve the captcha, the comment is rejected. So the spammers must have found a way around this. I'm using the default Modus theme.

Two related questions:

(1) the Piwigo setting "Allow users to add a link to their website" (Configuration > Options > Comments) seems to have no effect.

(2) I've just used an SQL query to delete 16,000 spam comments directly from the comments table of the database. Is this safe? Nothing seems to have broken. I could not face doing it page by page from within Piwigo.

All suggestions appreciated

Charles

PS for the moment, Akismet seems to be working for me (I had trouble with it in the past). But a captcha is a good second line of defence.
