Before using your FTP client, can you tell us how you have added your photos into Piwigo? (there are several methods)

Ok, so you use the software "pLoader" that you have installed on your computer.

Don't use FTP to modify files or directory.

You don't have to delete photos "one by one":

1) log in as an administrato on your gallery
2) in your gallery, go the category page
3) click on the "edit" link, now you are in the administration screen of the category
4) click on the "elements" icon, now you are on the batch manager for all photos of the category
5) in the "Deletions" block, target = "all", check the "confirm" option and click on the "Delete selected photos" button
