How do I activate ImageMagick (external) for Piwigo 2.4.1?

I have trouble - as quite a few - with Piwigo 2.4.1 creating thumbnails.
I can only fix this by using GDLib - setting $conf['graphics_library'] = 'gd'; in local configuration.

My ISP has ImageMagick installed external, but I cant use it for some reason. I have checked with my ISP and ImageMagick is actually running on the server hosting Piwigo 2.4.1
ImageMagick on the server is version 6.5.1-0 2009-04-02. Is version this too old?

ImageMagick is placed in /usr/local/bin/safe/ and can be executed by PHP from this location.

How do I use ImageMagick for Piwigo 2.4.1?

Re: How do I activate ImageMagick (external) for Piwigo 2.4.1?

Now I have connection to ImageMagick on the server
Actually I now have three domains (on different servers). None of them seems to be able of generating thumbnails in Piwigo 2.4.1?

ImageMagick are in different version on each server:
ImageMagick 6.5.1-0 - Dated 2009-04-02
ImageMagick 6.7.1-6 - Dated 2011-08-16
ImageMagick 6.7.3-1 - Dated 2011-10-17

None seems to work?

In Piwigo admin it says that I'm running ImageMagick:
Graphics Library: External ImageMagick 6.7.1-6 (or another of the versions above)

When I activate GDLib instead everything works ok

It seems there are some problems running Piwigo 2.4.1 with ImageMagick? I had no problems with version 2.3 of Piwigo

Hi thomas1956,

Can you give a link to your gallery. This way we can see a missing thumbnail and try to open it directly in the web browser: most of the time Piwigo gives extra details about the error.

Re: How do I activate ImageMagick (external) for Piwigo 2.4.1?

I (or rather my ISP) have now upgraded ImageMagick to ver. 6.7.8-2 (the latest version i guess).
Still the same problem - no thumbnails or other pictures generated.
Using GD no problem.

Any clue to what could be causing the malfunction?

Changed to new server - URL to page with missing thumbnail:

Re: How do I activate ImageMagick (external) for Piwigo 2.4.1?

Hello flop25

The one thumbnail was generated setting graphics library to GD (that seems to work ok)
The other one - the missing one - was tried generated using ext_imagick (see dump from local files editor below:

<?php
//$conf['graphics_library'] = 'gd';
$conf['graphics_library'] = 'ext_imagick';
//$conf['graphics_library'] = 'auto';

rights on files and paths on path /_data/i/upload/2012/07/26/20120726102439-0a6166c6-th.jpg are set to 777 (that's probably too much).
There are actually no such file in the folder /_data/i/upload/2012/07/26/ (it is not generated)
(there are no files in the folder except index.htm??)

Re: How do I activate ImageMagick (external) for Piwigo 2.4.1?

A follow up on this thread:

Removed the Piwigo 2.4.2 installation on the server completely (files, tables, database etc).
Reinstalled (manual install).
Installation succeeded with no errors.

Piwigo works perfect with GD library

BUT! BUT!
When changing to ImageMagick (ver. 6.7.8-2) no images (small, medium, thumbnails etc.) are generated.
In the Admin modules ImageMagick seems to load ok (see dump from Admin screen below)
It seems that Piwigo 2.4 and later have some serious problems with ImageMagick.
I had no problems with Piwigo 3.6 and earlier using ImageMagick.
