Hi Piwigo dev team,

I strongly think that the 6 month release cycle we've followed for Piwigo 2.3 was a success, see [Forum, topic 17428] Piwigo 2.3 planning. Let's reproduce it for Piwigo 2.4!

* 2012-01-01 : 2.4.0beta1
* 2012-02-01 : 2.4.0beta2
* 2012-03-06 : 2.4.0RC1
* 2012-04-02 : 2.4.0RC2
* 2012-04-06 : deadline for changes in language files
* 2012-04-20 : 2.4.0

well I hoped to rework the front-end template for 2.4 but.... I can't bring myself ^^

Yes, good point mistic100, it reminds me that compared to Piwigo 2.3, it's OK to break plugin/theme compatibility with Piwigo 2.4.

You mean about messages.tpl or something bigger ?

indeed, just need to take some hours to recover all my ideas and problems...
but for simplify, the goal is to unify (again ^^) some parts, simplify others, add abilities for plugins, and make a better default theme

I'm a bit late on 2.4.0beta2. I wanted to finish [Bugtracker] ticket 2561, and now that I'm testing trunk before releasing 2.4.0beta2, I have errors on derivatives in the upload form... I'm too tired to fix problems now, so I'll see tomorrow what's wrong and hopefully release beta2 in less than 24 hours.

2.4.0RC1 is about to be released (maybe tomorrow or the next day)

Here is what I consider as the "todo list before 2.4.0" :

* new tab [Administration > Albums > Manage > Edit > Notification] (we already had this form in 2.3)
* migration script for multisize (I mean, moving files and so on)
* manage the problem described in [Forum, topic 18684] [multisize] hotlinks and upgrade
* i18n on new screen [Administration > Photos > Add > Applications]
* redesign multisize administration screen
* redesign watermark administration screen
* move the "access type" from [Admin > Albums > Manage > Edit > Properties] to [Admin > Albums > Manage > Edit > Permissions]
* add an autocomplete widget for tags on search.php
* filter by privacy level on Batch Manager (change the algorithm, it is useless currently)

Nice to have but not mandatory:

* multisize cache regeneration in the Batch Manager

I've been very busy today and I can't make 240RC1 available. I will do tomorrow. The good news is that I have the 17 screenshots ready for the annoucement, including the mobile theme (SmartPocket) and the new default theme (Elegant).

As you can see, we're a bit late. I plan to make 2.4.0RC2 available today or tomorrow.

Then I still have the following TODO list for 2.4.0:

* migration script for multisize (I mean, moving files and so on)
* manage the problem described in [Forum, topic 18684] [multisize] hotlinks and upgrade
* redesign multisize administration screen
* redesign watermark administration screen
* give a few explanation on Center Of Interest new screen

Nice to have but not mandatory:

* add an autocomplete widget for tags on search.php

We also have to deal with translation: we must give enough time for translation team to translate Piwigo as much as possible before 2.4.0 is released. ddtddt, translation manager, and I have discussed about this subject. Next friday 2012-04-06 is the deadline for modification (modification/addition) in the language files.

I don't think it's possible to release 2.4.0 before 2 or 3 weeks, considering the amount of work still in the TODO list.

Hey guys,

I'm just curious: As I'm checking the site multiple times a day (hoping the the final piwigo-release will arrive), is there any (tentative) plan when 2.4 will be available. Don't get me wrong, I know this is subject to change and it's a free project where commitments aren't easy to be made.

I just thought you might have a rough idea when it might make sense to check back :-)
