Square Thumbnails

Hello :)

I was considering to disable square thumbnails, because my VPS's
file limit of 500k inodes is nearly reached. And since I'm using top
and bottom arrows above and below the picture I wouldnt miss
them too much as it would allow me to upload more content.
On the index page I'm using gthumbs.

I cant disable them in the Options it seems, sq does not have a check-mark to remove.

Now if I remove the $DISPLAY_NAV_THUMB from the picture.tpl,
will the _sq files still be generated automatically ?
Because just removing it from the picture.tpl and then deleting them via ftp would
be an easy solution (if it works) ?

And to remove the old ones I would have to use
an ftp search I reckon ?
As there is no option remove _sq files under the Options.

cheers and a happy Sunday,
kyp

Re: Square Thumbnails

Simply go to admincp > tools > maintenance > Delete multiple size images and click square. I believe if you never use them, then they will never be generated. Batch manager in admin cp does use square thumbs though.

Re: Square Thumbnails

Hi,

the batch manager uses "thumb" sizes, only the album sort order uses -sq size.
Deleting all my sq files would sum itself up to around 100k files, and I wouldnt trust that to a batch process, since it probably would timeout.

But I've tested it now on localhost and it did not generate any sq sizes when:

o tagging pictures via batch manager
o generating th, large, xxl thumbnails in the batch manager

Which is good news for me :)
Because now I've got 1/5th of my inodes back (file limit on disk set by hosting providers)

On the picture page I'm using now thumb ( <img src="{$previous.derivatives.thumb->get_url()}"  ) as thumbnails, I just put
them vertically one below the other instead of horizontally on one line (with elegant theme)

Still would be curious about a dev input.

cheers,
kyp
