From Lexiglot to Weblate

Dear translators, dear ddtddt :-)

English :

I discovered a few days ago a Python software named Weblate. It's a translation platform, just like Lexiglot, but far far away in term of functionnalities and performances.

I am currently investigating if this piece of software can fully replace Lexiglot, without any definitive plans for now.
Why ? well because I don't want to spend time on Lexiglot but it has some bugs and lacks functionalities you translators had asked (dictionnary, glossary, automatic notifications, etc).

For what I saw Weblate is very very promising (you can test the demo on their website). I have only two problems:
- does not integrate with SVN (only Git and Mercurial), this is of course a big concern, because even if we migrate Piwigo core to Github (see [Forum, topic 24695] Switching to Git / GitHub?), many plugins will stay on the Subversion repository
I am currently working on this feature (a bit hard, Python is not my favorite language)
- "projects" can only contain one file (plugin.lang.php for example), I still don't know how to handle out projects (plugins) with multiple files

And icing on the cake, the project is very active : https://github.com/nijel/weblate/commits/master

Do you think it's a good idea ?

Re: From Lexiglot to Weblate

That's not what he said me. He knows Perl very well, not Python

Re: From Lexiglot to Weblate

There a quite a few web translation services i.e.
http://zanata.org/
http://pootle.translatehouse.org/
https://www.transifex.com/

Maybe worth to compare with weblate, just my 2 cents :)

Cheers,
Roman

Re: From Lexiglot to Weblate

I don't have time to create the SVN connector (and seriously I hate Python)

And ddtddt didn't gave his point of view.

So it's nowhere.

Re: From Lexiglot to Weblate

Transcription of what ddtddt said to me :

- I don't think I have the patience to master a new plateform
- I am afraid some or many translators will quit when we ask them to register elsewhere and chnage their habits
- The fact that we can't have multiple files in a project is a real problem

Re: From Lexiglot to Weblate

*sigh* .. i wish there is a more modern tool to translate. i am actually considering suspending all my translating activities because the current tool is really basic and makes translating much more difficult than it needs to be.
