Hello/Hi/Greetings,
have seen a number of postings on the forum regarding problems extracting the GPS details to the database from uploaded photos - which if I recall worked perfectly well a couple of years ago when I last used Piwigo.
The various posts suggest various possible causes, but the most common is that the php function 'exif_read_data' may be at fault.
Other reasons given are that the MakerNotes causes a problem and some suggest that the problem is if the 'Software' information is included in the photo.
What puzzles me is that on the same server as Piwigo is installed I have a test script set to read the GPS data from a photo that I uploaded to Piwigo.
The test script uses the 'exif_read_data' function and seems to have no problem reading the GPS data (albeit that to display it, it does not convert it to the format that it should be saved in the Piwigo database.
So if there is any of the Piwigo Team around to read this post, and who understands why the test script seems to work but Piwigo doesn't, perhaps they could clarify the issue.
The test script is here - http://pewe.uk/gpstest/gps.php
It uses this photo - http://pewe.uk/gpstest/picture.jpg
Piwigo version: 2.8
PHP version: 7.0.6
MySQL version:
Piwigo URL: http://

According to another member, the problem disappears in PHP V7.0.10 - which a lot of users do not have access to.
I think it is an incompatibility between Piwigo and certain versions of PHP, because I have 2 test scripts on the same site as I have Piwigo installed which do read gps data.
