I see only two : Lightbox and Fancybox;
where Fancybox is abandoned and without settings and Lightbox automatically goes fullscreen without any chance to display photo details.
Lightbox type has become a standard for galleries all over the net so I wonder why Piwigo does not have any good one. Without plugin I struggle to display fullscreen and navigate by arrows to next/previous image.
Piwigo version: 2.9.4

I don't know what lightbox is, but I think all the themes can go full screen . Just click the slideshow button.

just scroll to Demos

I am using Sakura and it doesn't show image fullscreen; even if it did then slideshow is not what I want, simply display image and allow manual control that's what is expected and not finding small buttons to start/pause

Yes Sakura is not a very responsive theme. It hasn't been updated since 2012. Try a newer one.

seriously ???
I have no intentions to move to other theme; I am pointing out there is a problem with presenting photos by Piwigo. Take a look around, lightbox type is common, convenient and popular. People are getting used to this kind of photo browsing so if they come to Piwigo gallery they might think it's outdated.
Ready to implement solutions are available for free. Problem is that Piwigo doesn't do this as default nor deliver a configurable plugin. I think we might agree this platform is aimed to allow managing large number of photos easily and not to make it harder.

Yes seriously.
Piwigo is community supported software. If you don't like something, then change it. Otherwise, get a refund I guess.

so you say, we are outdated; even if presented with ready to go solutions we are not interested; if you are interested do something about it
I will somehow get this done but wouldn't recommend platform where something convenient is not recognized and suggested solution is to change a theme
being competitive means you have what others have and even more but from you are saying I understand, this is a place where you don't care about being modern or visually attractive, it is how it is, expect quality from platform then develop plugin and convince others
