This is not upgrade related but more of a question on how to sort images based on actual byte size... not dimensions. I call it weight to keep it differentiated from physical size in pixels.
The batch manager has filters for sorting images by weight (as in byte size) but that does not really seem to be any useful in any other way. I do not seem to be able to exclude imges from the frontpage based on weight.
As it is I have a lot of images above 5MB, some above 30Mb and I am looking in to optimizing things and redo the sorting, but what could go a long way is jut put away the largest images with some filter?

I have been looking in to
- SmartAlbums - those filters have no weight (kb/mb) option
- PWG Blocks - no such filter there either.,
Any ideas besides manual sorting?

This is the wrong approach. You are supposed to display thumbnails (and only thumbnails) on front page, album pages and photo pages.
Thumbnails are not supposed to be in the MB range…

Please elaborate...?
I mean, those are thumbnails...?

There is a moving gif taking a whopping 58 MB (!!) storage on the front page (spaceship).
There is a png taking 594 kB (alien Akhenaten), and there are several other pngs.
Don't use animated gifs. Don't use 24-bit PNGs unless they are highly optimized.
All thumbnails should be jpg.

Well, most of the images are not mine, they come from a game developer and if Piwigo is not able to make a weight reduced thumbnail of a animated gif... not really a choice I have.
But apart from that you are mostly suggesting I should spend more effort optimizing the images. That can be done, but they are also available for download, how do I combine a reduced sized thumbnail with a high quality download version? Separate files all together?

Seems I actually set that huge animated gif as album thumbnail... it is currenlty removed from that, set another image....
