Hello,
Are thumbnails for tiff natively supported in Piwigo?
When I upload a tiff file, I just see the question mark image at /themes/default/icon/mimetypes/unknown.png. This is what I see in the album view as well as when on the image page. The uploaded tiff is there and can be downloaded. But no thumbnail.
When I look in the root/upload/2021/03/18 folder the .tiff file is there. When I go to root/_data/i/upload/2021/03/18 there are no alternate sizes. There are for the jpg files of other images.
I tried to follow the instructions here https://piwigo.org/doc/doku.php?id=user … es_missing
In my log file I see this:
[2021-03-18 1:36:58] [INFO] upload_file_pdf, $file_path = ././upload/2021/03/18/20210318013658-869e7a87.tif, $representative_ext =

Piwigo 11.3.0 Check for upgrade
Operating system: Linux
PHP: 7.4.15 (Show info) [2021-03-18 01:35:01]
MySQL: 5.7.28-log [2021-03-18 01:35:01]
Graphics Library: ImageMagick 6.9.7-4
Can anyone give advice on what to try next?

The question would be if Piwigo or image engines like GD or Imagemagick even are able to make thumbnails from tiff files? Has it worked before?

I honestly can't say if its worked before. I did a search in my gallery for .tif and .tiff and couldn't find any. I don't think I have uploaded them before.
I contacted my hosting provider and they said they can't see anything on their end that would prevent it.
Maybe some kind person could try and upload a tiff to their gallery and see if they get the same behaviour. Namely that no thumbnails are created.
Thanks!

I don't normally have any tiff, in my experience those are done via FAX scanners but I converted a RAW image (Nikon NEF) in to a TIF image using my Photoshop and uploaded to a Gallery I have that is 100% vanilla and very recently updated to Piwigo 11.4.
It gave me invalid file extension. Piwigo's default settings are not made for TIF.
That's enough for me. I am not modding this album or adding file extensions that have no general purpose for web browsing, I would never upload RAW images either for that matter since it is a huge waste of space.

. TIFF image format is not widely supported by web browsers.

Thanks for trying.
These are high resolution photographs of artwork that will be used for print production. Our gallery is an in-house graphics repository for images that are used in production work. Everything I'm finding says that tiff is best for print work. I have no idea if that is really true.
When I convert them to png they look the same to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But I think that there are other characteristics of images files, such as cmyk vs rgb that may matter in production. Or maybe not. While I'd love to save the disk space (the pngs are about 1/3 the size) I don't want to risk loosing anything that might be helpful in the future. For some reason where I live all of the printing shops seem to require jobs submitted as TIFF. That may just be a hold over from previous times.
Anyone else have experience with TIFF on Piwigo?

You may want to look in to a document storage system, instead of an image gallery.
Nextcloud, Resourcespace and others do not have the "web" presentation approach, at least not defined as such as default, but, Piwigo is originally made for web presentation of web friendly images. Sure you can hack it, but there is no reason for Piwigo to be able to handle images that are not browser compatible.
Personally I am looking more and more at Resourcespace for document storage: https://www.resourcespace.com/knowledge … ed_formats

Right. This set of tiffs are kind of an edge case even for us. I certainly agree that Piwigo isn't good as a document storage solution. But tiff's are images so it didn't seem like a stretch. And since ImageMagick supports them I thought it would work.
Thanks for the suggestion.

hello
Tiff are handled well by piwigo, but it's converted to jpeg or png in order to be displayed on the web
That's automatic if you are using ImageMagick on your server (check admin.php?page=maintenance)

We'll that's good to hear. But as I said earlier, I do have ImageMagick running. That's the problem.
Piwigo 11.4.0 Check for upgrade

Checking on the IM homepage, https://imagemagick.org/index.php
The current release is ImageMagick 7.0.11-4.
So I'm off by a touch, but I can't believe that is the issue. Any ideas? Are tiffs being converted on your gallery?
