Can't uploading pictures

Hi
I've been trying to upload pix but unable.  The steps I used:
Admin
Photos - Add
create a new album
Browse
= select pix =
Upload

For 13 pix, there were few ERROR HTTP:500

http://www.IreneEng.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/piwigo-upload.jpg

The new album was never created.  However, I was able to find the pix in the Batch Manager, and can associate those pix to anotehr album.  But I need to have them in the newly created album which doesn't exist - never created.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Can't uploading pictures

Hello
how much did you upload ? can you try with less pics, for testing ?
And this problem appear suddenly: no change just before, from piwigo or your host ?

Re: Can't uploading pictures

also it seems the pictures >100KB was not uploaded : maybe a file size issue. test with pictures with different size, like a picture size scale

Re: Can't uploading pictures

Thanks Flop!

What's allowable size for piwigo - those pix I'm trying to upload range from 42KB to 158KB.

Thank you.

Re: Can't uploading pictures

The upload limits don't depend on Piwigo but on your host : in the 2.3, an estimation of the limits has been implement

An error 500 is usually caused by an overload of the server

Re: Can't uploading pictures

Thanks Flop.

Dream Host has 7MB limit on pix.   I just tried to upload 7 picutres, and got same problem - pls see the image.  I found six photos in the "Recent photos" but not in "Batch Manager".  The new album was never created.

What would cause an "overload of the server"?  By me?  What should I do to avoid it??  When I just loaded those 7 pix, I have only piwigo running (on Drean Host??).

Thanks.

Re: Can't uploading pictures

Irene Eng, can you install Piwigo 2.3.0RC1 for test on your hosting and tell us if the problem is still there?

Re: Can't uploading pictures

i'm having HTTP Error (500) on some pictures  -always the same on every browser ; These pictures are specials : they were modified by a specific software (noise ninja 2)

Does your pics have a specificity like mines ? Can you try the html form instead of the flash form ?

Re: Can't uploading pictures

Irene Eng, does the error occur always on the same photos? If yes, can you provide me one of these photos? (send it on my email plg [at] piwigo [dot] org)

I've just made a test and there was no problem, but the photo is huge : 5184x3456. It requires a lot of memory for processing.

Question 1 : are other photos that big?

Question 2 : what is the memory limit on Dreamhost? (go on your Piwigo Administration Home Page and click on the "Show info" link next to the PHP version, then search "memory_limit" on the page)

Re: Can't uploading pictures

Thanks PLG

Most my pix aren't that big.  Those few were taken with someone else's camera.

On a second thought: probably most photographers use better cameras, SLR .. .. big n bold that can bring the little moon back to earth .. so ..  how are they managing the upload?  Is my problem stemming from .. too large?

Dreamhost has 7MB limit.  Few days again, on one of the "help me" requests, A DH rep said she had increased mine to 10MB, but I don't know if it's across the board or just one domain.  When I upload now, my site still says 7MB.

Thank you

Re: Can't uploading pictures

There are 2 different things to consider:

1) how much the photo weights in bytes => you have a limit at 7MB

2) how big is the photo in pixels => it all depends on the memory PHP can use

Can you please:
