Hello, I have been trying to edit a theme.
everything was fine until I logged in as the admin
I can see the back end of the site, but when I go to view the gallery I get an error message.
I tried deleting the theme I worked on and also the parent theme. I also deactivated all but the dark theme but still I get this:
Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening '/themeconf.inc.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib64/php:/usr/lib/php:/usr/share/pear') in /home4/naquitac/public_html/products/include/template.class.php on line 849

I made a copy of the Sylvia theme and then edited the copy in place.
I edited the themeconf file from the as was directed in http://piwigo.org/doc/doku.php?id=dev:theme_creation
but left the Theme URI blank
and changed all the placed where it said Sylvia to the name of the theme I had been working on
when I noticed the error I tried to delete both the sylvia theme and my own, but didnt help

I also checked that ( header.tpl - index.tpl - footer.tpl) are all present in directory themes/default/template
and changed all the permissions to 7 5 5

Configuration->Theme, which is the default theme ?
you should also check that all the themes registered in the table "piwigo_themes" exists, and that all themes used in "piwigo_user_infos.theme" exist in "piwigo_themes"

You lost me at the second part though =(

If I just give up and copy the uploads folder to another directory then uninstall and reinstall piwigo. and move the uploads folder back, will it help?

it will certainly work if you don't mind loosing some data
but before that
I spoke about database table, you can access it with phpMyAdmin
but there a simple check you can perform :
on Admin->Users->Manage, check all users and set the used theme as "elegant"
